New and Expectant Parents

Congratulations on the birth or expected birth of your precious baby!  Your new child will be a source of happiness and joy for your entire family. The Coastal Alabama Down Syndrome Society (CADSS) understands the wide range of emotions you may be feeling right now. Whether you received a prenatal diagnosis of your child’s Down syndrome, or a surprise diagnosis after birth, it is common to experience fear, grief and disbelief. All these emotions are normal, as are the many questions you may have. Give yourself grace, it is perfectly normal to feel scared, sad, confused, or angry. Everyone processes unexpected news in different ways & all those ways are OKAY. Give yourself the time & space you need to feel everything you need to feel. Your child will grow and thrive beyond your expectations, and the Coastal Alabama Down Syndrome Society will be here to help and support your entire family.

CADSS serves hundreds of families in Southwest Alabama with a variety of activities to provide social and educational support. We host general membership meetings with guest speakers to keep our members updated on the latest Down Syndrome therapies, legislative changes, and resources. We also host social groups that are fun for all ages. Your family is not alone on this journey.

When you are ready, we urge you to get involved with CADSS. You can find us on Facebook as Coastal Alabama Down Syndrome Society. Our group for new parents also has a private Facebook page called “Down Right Cuties” that we encourage you to join to meet other local families with small children. In addition, we have many parents who would be happy to speak with you personally to offer support and advice.  Please do not hesitate to contact us.

When you’re ready to talk to someone you can contact us at CADSS@cadss.org or via text message or phone call at (251) 219-0324.

Si prefiere hablar con alguien en español puede llamar al mismo número de teléfono (251) 219-0324 o enviar un mensaje de texto y pedir a hablar con Betty. También puede escribirle a betty@cadss.org
